Georges River 16ft Sailing Club: A Legacy Renewed
Established in 1927, the Georges River 16ft Sailing Club has been a cornerstone of the Sandringham community for nearly a century. Originally
focused on 16ft skiff racing, the club has evolved over the decades, embracing various sailing classes, while also serving as an important social
and recreational hub.
In 2022, GRSC entered a new chapter by amalgamating with Club Central, part of the Illawarra Catholic Club (ICC) Group. This strategic
partnership integrated GRSC members into the broader Club Central family, granting them access to Club Central Hurstville and Club Central
Menai, forming a trio of vibrant venues for members and guests.
Throughout 2023, there were upgrades completed to stunning new function rooms overlooking Dolls Point Beach and Botany Bay as well as
other facility upgrades whilst further planning was undertaken for a full renovation. This project commenced in early 2025, which will see a $10
million renovation project completed over 6 months – the most extensive in the clubs’ history.
The transformation includes a new Mediterranean-inspired brasserie, a cocktail bar showcasing signature drinks, and a dedicated sports bar
with big-screen appeal as well as accessibility improvements with a new lift and central staircase. A louvred semi-outdoor dining area also
blends the outdoors with indoor dining. With the sparkle of Botany Bay as a backdrop, we are creating some stunning spaces to relax and
unwind with drinks and dinner, as well as a destination for milestone celebrations – from birthdays and anniversaries to weddings, corporate
functions and special community events. As GRSC approaches its centenary in 2027, these developments honour its past while positioning it
for a vibrant future.
